House Fails to Override Veto of Education Funds

The House of Representatives tried but failed to override the president's veto of the 2008 spending bill for labor, health, and education just before the legislators left town for their Thanksgiving recess.

In the Senate, meanwhile, leaders began to draft a compromise measure to try to deal with President Bush's concern that the bill was too expensive.
