House Committee Approves Tuition Tax Breaks
The House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee approved a $3.8-billion bill last week that includes tax benefits for people paying back student loans and parents saving money for college.
A similar measure, S. 1134, passed the Senate this month. But President Clinton has threatened to veto that bill for reasons unrelated to higher education. He opposes a provision in both bills -- which he has vetoed in the past -- to let families spend money that grows
