House Committee Approves Legislation With Tax Breaks for College Expenses
The House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee last week approved a massive tax bill that would help students who are paying back loans and parents who are saving for college expenses. The Republican-sponsored legislation, however, is expected to be vetoed if sent to President Clinton without changes.
The bill was approved on a party-line vote, with 23 Republicans in favor and 13 Democrats opposed.
