The Appropriations Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives this week approved legislation that would provide no increase in funds for the National Endowments for the Arts and for the Humanities in the 2007 fiscal year.
Under a bill approved on Wednesday, the National Endowment for the Humanities would receive $141-million and the National Endowment for the Arts would receive $124-million, the same as in the current fiscal year, which ends on September 30. The House bill follows President Bush’s request for no increase (The Chronicle, February 7).
