House Appropriations Committee Rejects Raises for Endowments
Turning down President Clinton's requests, the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee voted last month against any increase in the budgets of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts for the 2001 fiscal year.
The president had requested an increase of $35-million over the N.E.H.'s current budget of $115-million, and an increase of $52-million in the N.E.A.'s budget of $98-million.
