Hospital Panels That Approve Pediatric Research Get Poor Marks
Hospitals that do research on children have panels that are supposed to ensure the youngsters are treated safely and fairly. But panel members seem poorly informed of the federal regulations governing such studies, according to a small survey of these committees, known as institutional review boards or IRB's.
"There's a lot of room for improvement in the knowledge that IRB members have," said the leader of the study, Steven Joffe, an assistant professor of pediatrics at Harvard
