Hopkins Gets $50-Million Pledge for Business and Education Schools

The Johns Hopkins University has received a $50-million pledge from an emeritus trustee that it will use to establish new schools in business and education, the university announced today. The donor is William Polk Carey, chairman of a real-estate investment firm in New York City.

The Carey Business School and the School of Education will open on January 1, 2007. The business school will continue and develop M.B.A. programs in biotechnology, public health, medical-services management, and nursing, as well as add a five-year B.A. or science/M.B.A. option for undergraduate liberal-arts and engineering students. The School of Education will train teachers and principals, and conduct research on curricular reforms.
