Hold His Calls

Thomas R. Morris had long vowed to walk the 366 miles separating his two homes along the Appalachian Trail in Virginia. Considering that he had never gone on a lengthy hike, his family did not always take him seriously.

But Mr. Morris, president of Emory & Henry College, left his home in Wintergreen, Va., on May 15, the day after graduation, and he expects to reach his second home, near the Tennessee border, within a month. What's more, his personal adventure became lucrative for
