'Historical Truth' vs. 'Narrative Truth' in Rigoberta Menchu's Autobiography

Your January 15 article "A Challenge to the Veracity of a Multicultural Icon" states that David Stoll's critique of I, Rigoberta Menchu claims that "major portions of the book ... are untrue" and "that key events detailed in the autobiography could not have taken place." This too easily implies that Stoll rejects the content of her narrative entirely. Instead, he says that her autobiography
