Higher Tuition, More Student Aid
To the Editor:
Congressional proposals to punish colleges for big price increases focus too much on full sticker prices rather than on net prices — what a college charges on average after subtracting its own grant aid ("Congress's Cost Cure May Have Side Effects," The Chronicle, February 8). Net price is much more important to college access than full price is: At many private colleges, most students do not pay full tuition.
