Heidi Landecker
Assistant Managing Editor
Heidi Landecker has been an assistant managing editor of The Chronicle of Higher Education since 2005. Landecker supervises the copy desk, edits a Q&A column, and moderates the Lingua Franca blog. Since joining The Chronicle as a copy editor in 1998, she has served as senior editor and copy chief, with a particular interest in public colleges, the faculty, and writing in academe. She moonlights occasionally as a writer.
Her freelance articles have appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, The Boston Globe, WoodenBoat magazine, and other publications, and her short stories have been published in The Boston Globe Magazine and The New Yorker. She has been the editor of Spacemaker Press, a senior editor at Architecture and Landscape Architecture magazines, a copy editor at The Boston Globe Magazine and The Boston Observer, and a staff editor at The Atlantic Monthly. From 1983 to 1998 she was a free-lance researcher for the novelist Gore Vidal.
Landecker received a bachelor's degree in environmental studies and art from Antioch College and a master's in science and environmental education, with a focus on writing about the environment, from Cornell University.
