Harvard U. Loses Civil Rights Project and Its Director to UCLA; Hamilton College Stumbles on Planned Center for the Study of Western Civilization; U.S. State Dept. Official Heads Back to U.Va.
MOVING WEST: Gary A. Orfield, co-founder and director of Harvard University's Civil Rights Project, is moving to the University of California at Los Angeles, and he's taking the project with him.
The center, which Mr. Orfield founded 10 years ago with Christopher Edley Jr., focuses on civil-rights research and works with universities, advocacy groups, policy makers, and journalists. (Mr. Edley left Harvard in 2004 to become dean of the University of California at Berkeley's Boalt Hall
