Harvard Outbids Columbia for Jazz Scholar; U. of Alabama at Tuscaloosa Seeks to Hire Experts in 'Creative Media'

Columbia University's Center for Jazz Studies lost out last month to Harvard University on a bid to woo Ingrid T. Monson, an associate professor of music at Washington University, in St. Louis. Columbia had wanted Ms. Monson to fill an endowed chair in music, giving her a key role in shaping the future of its year-old jazz center.
