Harvard Narrows Search for Nieman Foundation Director; 33-Year-Old Vies for 3rd College Presidency; Penn Law School Names One of Its Own as Dean

Harvard University is narrowing its search for a new director of the Nieman Foundation for Journalism, and two names have surfaced as finalists: John S. Carroll, editor of The Sun in Baltimore, and Ellen Goodman, a nationally syndicated columnist based at The Boston Globe.

Neil L. Rudenstine, Harvard's president, will make the final decision and has been interviewing the candidates, says Jackie O'Neill, the president's staff director. She says Mr. Rudenstine has named 10 senior
