Harvard Gives Honorary Degree to Nelson Mandela
Harvard University last month awarded South African President Nelson Mandela an honorary doctoral degree in a distinctive way.
The presentation of the doctor-of-laws degree came during a ceremony held solely for the purpose. That makes Mr. Mandela one of only four people to whom Harvard has awarded such honorary degrees outside of graduation. The others were George Washington, Andrew Jackson, and Winston Churchill.
