Harvard Black-Studies Scholar Defects to Princeton; Rutgers Professor to Join Columbia's English Dept.
CHANGING STRIPES: Harvard University's renowned Afro-American-studies department suffered what may be the first of several defections last month when K. Anthony Appiah, 47, announced that he would leave Harvard at the close of the academic year. He will join Princeton University in September as the Laurance S. Rockefeller University Professor in the philosophy department and in the University Center for Human Values.
The move, Mr. Appiah says, is in order to work closer to his partner,
