Harvard University announced on Tuesday that it would add “gender identity” to its nondiscrimination policy, extending its protections to transgender students and faculty and staff members, The Harvard Crimson reported today. Campus activists had pushed for the change for nearly a decade. The Human Rights Campaign, a national advocacy group for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender rights, hailed the move, noting that half of the Ivy League institutions now include gender identity in their nondiscrimination policies.
