Harold Varmus Reflects on His Numerous Goals as Director of the NIH

In the five years that he has run the National Institutes of Health, Harold E. Varmus has initiated programs to reduce paperwork in the grant process and streamline peer review; created new training programs for clinical researchers; and lured to the agency top scientists from universities and medical schools across the country.
