Happy Trailing Spouses
The example for academic couples starts at the top at Pennsylvania State University. The president, Graham B. Spanier, is married to Sandra Spanier, a professor of English on the University Park campus. In fact, about 1,400 faculty and staff members are married to colleagues at the university. One incentive to hire spouses and partners: If an academic department agrees to hire a faculty spouse or partner, the Penn State administration will cover as much as two-thirds of the new hire's salary
