Your articles about contented part-time faculty members ("For Some Adjunct Faculty Members, the Tenure Track Holds Little Appeal," July 24) and about alternatives to the tenure system ("Contracts Replace the Tenure Track for a Growing Number of Professors," June 12) seem to leave out of consideration the fact that, at most of our educational institutions, tenure does far more than grant job security.
