Hank Brown Is Sole Finalist to Be U. of Colorado President

The University of Colorado’s Board of Regents voted today to make Hank Brown the only finalist to be president of the three-campus system, the Rocky Mountain News reported. Mr. Brown, who has been interim president since last summer, is expected to be formally named the next president later this spring.

A former U.S. senator, Mr. Brown took office in the aftermath of the sudden resignation of Elizabeth Hoffman, whose presidency collapsed under the weight of a football-recruiting scandal, a firestorm over a controversial faculty member, and continuing battles with the state government, among other problems. Within just a few months, Mr. Brown was winning plaudits from board members, state lawmakers, and faculty members (The Chronicle, November 11, 2005). So it was little surprise that the regents decided to make his position permanent.
