His departure after just two years raises questions about presidential searches

Brown University's two newest vice presidents had been on the job just five weeks when the president who hired them, E. Gordon Gee, announced suddenly that he was leaving to become chancellor of Vanderbilt University, after only two years at Brown.

The news this month stunned and angered many on the campus, because Mr. Gee (the "g" is hard) had told Brown's student newspaper
