Groups Seek Less Work for Medical Residents
"Abusive and inhumane" work schedules are jeopardizing the health of medical residents and their patients, according to medical-advocacy and public-interest groups that last week called for a federal cap on residents' hours.
Led by Public Citizen, a nonprofit group founded by Ralph Nader, the advocates submitted a petition to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration calling for a work limit of 80 hours per week, with shifts of no more than 24 hours.
