Great Expectations for a New Dormitory
Five years ago, administrators at the University of Oregon sat down to plan a new residential building, the first dormitory to be built in the core of Oregon's campus since 1963. Their hopes were not modest. A committee of architecture professors, facilities managers, and undergraduates issued a planning document in 2003 proclaiming that the new dorm, if done right, "has the potential to transform the entire university by creating a student culture of learning and scholarship."
