Grant Program Lets Students Take Charge of 'Service Learning'
Emma Pickering wanted to use her love of painting to help children from low-income families express themselves through art. As a child, Ms. Pickering was able to paint because of an aunt who gave her free instruction and supplies. Now a junior at the University of Texas at Austin, Ms. Pickering hoped to offer similar opportunities to others. But in order to do so, she was going to need some money.
