Grammar Is Fundamental to Writing --Â and to Reading and Thinking

It's always fascinating to see academics stand logic on its head and denigrate such a fundamental skill as the ability to produce grammatically correct writing ("Teaching Grammar Doesn't Lead to Better Writing," The Review, May 16). Dennis Baron is surprised to find that professors rank grammar as the most important skill for students entering college, while high-school teachers find it the least important.
