As one who specializes in experiential education, I was thrilled to read Elizabeth F. Farrell's conclusions regarding the National Survey of Student Engagement by George D. Kuh et al. (Notebook, The Chronicle, August 11). Unfortunately, a brief review of the original study quickly tempered my enthusiasm.
