Grades Do Matter

Last spring, Richard Sander, a UCLA professor of law and economics, created a storm with a study showing that hiring preferences lead to high attrition rates of minority recruits at elite law firms (“The Racial Paradox of the Corporate Law Firm”). Now he’s back at the blog Empirical Legal Studies with calculations of grades for white law-school graduates. His conclusion? Grades do matter to long-term success, and lowering standards for minorities is still questionable.
