Governance of Alabama Universities Under Attack
After decades of rivalry, Alabama's public universities have finally found something that unites them: their staunch opposition to the idea of being placed under a single governing board.
An advisory committee of the Alabama Legislature has called for the creation of such a board because, it says, the state is ill-served by a decentralized approach to governing its 16 public universities.
But bringing about such a change would require major revisions in the state Constitution,
