Good Researchers Can Also Be Good Teachers

In "Notes From Underground: the Job Fair for Historians" (January 19), your reporter Jeff Sharlet substantially misquoted us, which is not surprising given his lack of a recorder and limited note taking. As a result, the way we have conducted our interview process, especially the interviews at the annual meeting of the American Historical Association, was misrepresented.

Don Fries did not "boast" that we "screen out stars." We did not discuss "stars" at all;
