Global Warming Is Real, National Academy of Sciences Panel Says
A panel of the National Academy of Sciences has concluded that the warming of the earth's surface is "undoubtedly real."
In a report released last week, the panel examined an apparent conflict between the surface-temperature and upper-atmosphere-temperature records, which has ignited fierce debates among climatologists attempting to estimate the earth's average temperature change (The Chronicle, February 5, 1999).
