Getting University Presses Back on Track

The article by Jennifer K. Ruark titled "University Presses Suffer Bleak Financial Year" (July 20) is an honest and frank piece of reporting. The problem is not with her report but with the agile sidestepping by some press directors of nonfinancial issues that are highly relevant: ... copyright infringements that are ignored by reprint shops, a tight library market for scholarly books, archaic returns policies that allow the big chains to pay publishers in returns
