Getting Generation Y to the Voting Booth

George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management announced on Wednesday the winners of a national competition to support innovative, nonpartisan strategies to register young voters. According to a news release,, the winners will try to register 350,000 young voters nationwide this year through a $3-million project that will be coordinated by Young Voter Strategies and financed by the Pew Charitable Trusts.

An unusually large proportion of young people, and particularly college students, voted in the 2004 presidential election (The Chronicle, December 10, 2004), and the organizers of the new project hope to build on the voter-registration drives of 2004.
