Gerald Ford Offered Academe Olive Branches, but Little Money
Gerald R. Ford, who died last week at the age of 93, did not focus heavily on higher education during his short tenure as the 38th president of the United States. He did, however, take several steps early in his presidency to extend a welcoming hand to academics and other bitter critics of the policies of his Republican predecessor, Richard M. Nixon.
