Georgia Uses Threats to Collect Defaulted Student Loans
Georgia's Student Finance Commission has collected $823,383 in defaulted student loans since last spring, by threatening licensed professionals and teachers with the loss of their state credentials.
Georgia began to screen licensed professionals for delinquent state-guaranteed loans in March and expanded the program to include teachers in July. Letters have been sent to 1,542 borrowers with one or more outstanding loans.
