Georgia Tech Student Arraigned on Terrorism Charges

A student at the Georgia Institute of Technology pleaded not guilty today to charges that he had provided material support to terrorists and prepared for a “violent jihad” by undergoing training to attack targets around Atlanta, the Associated Press reported. The student, 21-year-old Syed Ahmed, was born in Pakistan, grew up in the Atlanta area, and is a U.S. citizen. His lawyer pointed out that the accusations amounted to little more than “imprudent talk,” considering that his client had never planned terrorist acts or acquired the weaponry to carry them out.
