The Washington Post’s architecture critic has an interesting view of Georgetown University’s new theater building. According to an article published on Sunday, the university ended up with a so-so building even though the architect, Hugh Hardy, is one of the best in the business and has designed as many theaters as anybody now working. According to the Post’s critic, Benjamin Forgey, the blame lies with the university and, specifically, with a single donor who wanted “a nice, old-fashioned building.” The good news, the review says, is that the theater is “a gem” inside.
