Gender Roles in Class and at Home
To the Editor:
I wasn't far into "Gaining a Daughter: a Father's Trangendered Tale" (Opinion, March 24) when I felt myself resisting the notion that Lennard J. Davis's self-described "transgirl" was really doing anything transgressive with gender. The response to the father's question "[W]hat does this mean?," is, "It means, I'm a girl. I want to wear dresses, makeup, and challenge the whole patriarchal, bourgeois idea of gender." ... Ho hum. I thought the
