As Virginia Tech dedicated a memorial on Sunday to honor the students and professors who were killed by a campus gunman in April, fresh tragedy seemed to be waiting in the wings, as a carbon-monoxide leak in a local apartment building injured nearly 20 students, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported. Two of the students were in critical condition, and three others were seriously hurt. The leak apparently came from a water heater, a device that was blamed for the death of one man in a similar incident last summer at Roanoke College, just down the road from Virginia Tech. —Andrew Mytelka
