Gardner-Webb President, Enmeshed in Sports Scandal, Resigns

After six weeks of controversy, Gardner-Webb University's president has announced his resignation. M. Christopher White, who had led the Boiling Springs, N.C., university since 1986, had been criticized by many students, parents, and faculty members since they discovered that he had circumvented the university's honor code two years ago to keep a star basketball player eligible.
