Ga. Baptists Cut Ties With Mercer U.
The Georgia Baptist Convention formally cut its ties to Mercer University, a move that was prompted by a gay-lesbian symposium held at Mercer last year that upset convention members.
The split ended a 173-year connection between the convention and the university. The Baptist organization had provided more than $3-million in scholarship funds for Mercer each year, but those grants will cease at the end of 2007.
