Fugitive Couple Returns to Face Fraud Charges Involving College

A husband and wife accused of defrauding the Rhode Island School of Design of more than $1-million were arrested after they landed at a Boston airport on Monday and pleaded not guilty at their arraignment in federal court, the Providence Journal reported. The couple, Patrick Clyne and Ibtisama Bradley, were alleged to have bilked the school in a scheme involving fire-safety work paid for but not performed. Prosecutors regarded them as fugitives after they left the United States for Ireland last year, but their defense lawyer said on Monday that they were unaware of the legal proceedings, and had returned to the United States when they learned they were wanted. —Andrew Mytelka
