French Government Backs Down in Dispute Over Research, Agreeing to Most Demands by Scientists
French scientists are celebrating after the national government, chastened by a loss in regional elections last month that led to a cabinet reshuffle, ceded ground in a long-running dispute over government support for scientific research.
Tens of thousands of French researchers had signed an online petition that charged the government with severely neglecting the public research sector.
