Free Speech, or Fee Speech?
The drug companies Merck and Schering-Plough, as part of their efforts to analyze and promote the use of the drug Vytorin, paid a group of 16 U.S. physicians, 14 of them members of university faculties, more than $450,000. The money was for delivering speeches to other medical professionals and attending consultant meetings between November 2007 and March 2008.
