Fraternity Pays $2-Million to Settle Lawsuit Over Death at U. of Texas
The Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity and 11 members of its University of Texas at Austin chapter have reached a $2-million settlement with the parents of a student who died of alcohol poisoning in 1998.
Jack Ivey Jr. died less than a year after being initiated into the fraternity. His parents, Jack and Judith Ivey, sued the national fraternity, the Austin chapter, and 16 members, accusing them of violating Texas hazing laws and university policy.
