After seven years as founding chancellor of the University of California at Merced, the system’s newest campus, Carol Tomlinson-Keasey announced today that she would step down on August 31 to return to teaching and scholarship, according to to a Merced news release. Ms. Tomlinson-Keasey, a developmental psychologist and veteran administrator and faculty member, oversaw the planning and creation of the Merced campus, which opened last September as the system’s 10th campus and the first American research university built in the 21st century (The Chronicle, April 1, 2005).
