Foundation Grants Increased by More Than 17% in 1999, Report Says
Giving by foundations is at a record high.
The country's grant-making foundations gave $22.8-billion to nonprofit organizations -- including colleges -- in 1999, a one-year increase of 17.2 percent, a new study shows.
Reversing recent trends, corporate foundations led the surge, making grants whose total value of $3-billion in 1999 had increased by 22.2 percent from 1998, a record rise, the Foundation Center reports.
