Former Wisconsin Chancellor Named Head of American Council on Education
David Ward, former chancellor at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, was named last week as the next president of the American Council on Education, the umbrella group for higher-education associations.
Mr. Ward, who will take over the job in September, vowed at a news conference here to defend affirmative action in college admissions, fight for embryonic stem-cell research, and encourage four-year institutions to better cooperate with community colleges. He will replace Stanley O.
