Former President of Peru Stands Trial on Charges of Ordering 1992 Killings of Professor and 9 Students

Peru's former president, Alberto Fujimori, went on trial in Lima on Monday, charged with human-rights violations, including authorizing the 1992 kidnapping and killing of nine university students and a professor.

Toward the end of the morning session, according to news reports, Mr. Fujimori stood and declared he was innocent. If any "detestable acts" were committed, he said, they were not done under his orders.
