Former President of Eastern Mich. U. Says Polygraph Test Proves His Truthfulness

The recently ousted president of Eastern Michigan University, John A. Fallon III, has taken a polygraph test to demonstrate his honesty in recounting his role in a murder investigation on the campus, according to today’s Ann Arbor News, and his lawyer has challenged the university’s Board of Regents to do the same.

Mr. Fallon is the second Eastern Michigan administrator to produce polygraph-test results in an attempt to disprove any deceit in the case of Laura Dickinson, a student whose body was discovered in her dormitory room in December. The university’s apparent coverup of the murder generated great controversy, and James F. Vick, the former vice president for student affairs, took a lie-detector test in June.

The board fired both men last month, along with Cindy L. Hall, director of the campus police.

Mr. Fallon has said he was unaware of the suspicious nature of Ms. Dickinson’s death until another student was charged with her rape and murder. The ex-president told the local newspaper that he knew Ms. Dickinson’s body had been found naked from the waist down, but that did not raise a red flag. He acknowledged that he could have done more in the murder investigation. —Sara Lipka
